Massage Cupping

A technique I typically blend into any session, cupping provides the same benefits of massage in a very targeted area. The cups help release stuborn areas through increased circulation, relaxation, promote healing and they pull on your fascia to 'create' more space. If you think of tradiational massage as a positive pressure, cupping is a negative pressure, pulling rather than pushing. I use cups statically (parking) or dynamically (gliding) as well as flash-cupping (applying the cup and immediately taking it off, in repitition).

Most people will experience an unusual sensation in the area with a cup. Something around a "Hurts so good" feeling. Cups are left on somewhere between 1-10 minutes depending on the area and the person.

Cup marks are likely to occur and can last around a week. They are not actual bruises since we are not breaking any capillaries. However, a darker cup mark indicates more stagnation. The color can vary from pink, red, maroon, and eggplant, to yellow or almost brownish.

Contraindications include people on blood thinners, women who are pregnant, those who have vericose veins, anyone who has hemophilia, or on areas with eczema or psoriasis. Consult your doctor and myself if you have any hesitations. It is always an optional treatment.
